A city name or radius is a discovery aid. Get your exact address, selected package, travel charge and appointment availability confirmed directly.
A provider can be “near you” and still be unable to take your booking. It may serve selected neighborhoods, organize visits by day, require a minimum job for a longer trip, or simply have no available appointments. A location result helps you find the business; it does not reserve its time.
Treat coverage and availability as two separate checks. First ask whether the operator serves your proposed address for the work you want. Then ask when it can come and what travel costs apply.
Four ways coverage may be described
A business may list cities, counties, ZIP codes or a radius. Each describes the service area differently. A city list can omit nearby places that the operator accepts by arrangement. A radius may not explain whether distance is measured by road or as a straight line. A broad region can be a useful introduction while leaving your address unresolved.
On Car Wash Compass, a published service radius is displayed as a coverage description, not a promise about driving distance or arrival time. We do not invent a radius when a provider has not supplied one, and private mobile operating addresses are not shown. See how our directory describes mobile coverage.
If a listing gives only a city, do not draw your own circle around its center. Contact the business. “Can you come to this ZIP code?” starts the conversation; exact-address confirmation finishes it.
Travel fees are operator-specific
Stanced Autocare's FAQ says a travel fee applies beyond 50 miles. MD Detailing advertises free travel within 12 miles of Rochester, Michigan, followed by fee tiers, with the amount calculated during booking. These examples show different business policies, not a standard radius or standard charge. Checked October 17, 2026. Stanced Autocare FAQ, MD Detailing service area.
Ask how the quoted distance is measured, what location it is measured from, and whether the fee is per visit or per vehicle. You do not need a technician's private home address. You need a clear price for the journey associated with your booking.
If two cars will be at the same address, ask for a combined quote rather than assuming the second car eliminates the fee. If a package has a minimum spend for travel, have the provider state that explicitly.
Give enough detail for a real answer
Send the proposed address privately through the provider's booking channel, together with the vehicle and requested service. Explain whether the car is at a home, apartment, office or other approved property. Mention access constraints before the provider commits to the trip.
You can ask:
Do you serve this exact location for package? What is the total travel charge, if any? Are there particular days or minimum booking requirements for this area? Please confirm the arrival window and any location restrictions before I pay.
Keep a copy of the response. “We cover the region” is less useful than an accepted address and a complete price.
A radius does not describe the appointment
Do not turn a mileage number into an estimated arrival time. Traffic, route order and the previous job can affect a mobile schedule. Ask for the operator's arrival window and how it communicates delays.
Coverage also does not guarantee that every service is available at every address. A larger or more involved job may require a different setup. If you change from a wash to a detail, add another vehicle, or move the appointment, reconfirm both the area and the price.
For recurring work, ask whether the service area or travel policy can change and how you will be notified before the next charge. Save the terms that apply when you enroll.
If you are outside the normal area
Ask about an approved alternative address, a scheduled route day, or a fixed-location option. Do not assume an operator will travel farther for a surcharge; it may simply decline. Compare the complete arrangement, including your own travel and waiting time, before changing the plan.
Start with mobile providers in the directory, then move the exact-address discussion to the business. Our mobile FAQ answers the related questions about parking permission, utilities and booking expectations.
