Ask for a total tied to your vehicle, condition, exact address and requested work. A starting price is useful only when you know what can change it.
The most useful price is the one a provider will honor for your car at your address. Search results often show a starting figure without the vehicle class, package scope or travel conditions beside it. Before deciding that one service is expensive and another is cheap, make those missing pieces visible.
This guide does not claim a US average. A directory's collected menus are not a representative price survey, and a wash should not be averaged together with a multi-step detail. Use current local quotes for your own decision.
What a real menu can tell you
As checked on October 17, 2026, Washos advertises starting prices of $99 for Express Detail, $169 for Interior Detail, $199 for Deluxe Detail and $299 for Signature Detail. Its page says prices may vary by market and shows separate member prices. These are one provider's advertised examples, not nationwide benchmarks or a quote for your car. Washos package menu.
Notice how the price question changes once the packages are named. Comparing an interior detail to a basic wash does not reveal a bargain; it compares different work. First choose the scope you actually need, then collect prices for that scope.
Build a complete quote
Ask the provider to identify each applicable part of the price:
- The package and the vehicle class it covers, including extra rows or cargo space.
- Your requested extras, with separate prices where possible.
- Any condition charge that can apply after the vehicle is inspected.
- Travel, parking or access charges for the service location.
- Taxes, mandatory fees and any deposit credited toward the final bill.
- The final approval process if the scope changes on arrival.
Do not assume every business uses all these charges. The point is to find out which apply, not to accept a long list of unspecified extras. If a quote says “from,” ask for the conditions that would move your bill above that figure.
Send photos that reduce uncertainty
Show the entire cabin and the problem areas, not just the best-looking seat. Include the cargo area if it needs cleaning, pet hair where it is concentrated, and the exterior if mud or other contamination is part of the job. State whether seats are cloth, leather or another material, without guessing at a treatment.
Also send your year and model, the number of seating rows, and a clear description of the result you want. “Clean the interior” leaves room for disagreement. “Vacuum all three rows and cargo area, assess the coffee stain, and clean interior glass” is easier to price.
Keep photos relevant. There is no reason to include documents, registration details or valuables in a quote request.
Compare like for like
Here is a hypothetical comparison, not a statement of market rates. Provider A quotes $120 for a specified job and includes travel. Provider B advertises $100 for that same scope but confirms a $30 travel charge. Before other applicable charges, A totals $120 and B totals $130.
Now change the example: if A excludes the cargo area and B includes it, the totals still do not describe the same work. Put the inclusions alongside the numbers. A simple note with columns for scope, extras, travel, tax, total and estimated time is enough.
Some operators explicitly price by size, condition and add-ons. Stanced Autocare describes that approach and states a travel-fee threshold in its FAQ. That is a useful example of what a quote can disclose, not a rule for other detailers. Stanced Autocare FAQ.
Ask about the money before booking
Find out when payment is due, whether a deposit is refundable, how rescheduling works and whether a recurring plan is being selected. Save the total and the cancellation terms at checkout. A discounted first appointment should not obscure what later appointments cost.
If a new problem is found on arrival, pause and request the revised scope and total in writing before authorizing it. It is reasonable to leave optional work for another day.
