Plan your visit

Your first mobile detailing appointment: a booking checklist

A clear plan for the quote, parking, keys, personal belongings, arrival window and final walkthrough, from the first message to the handoff.

The useful bit

Agree on the job, the location, the total and the handoff before the appointment. Keep those four things in one confirmation you can find easily.

A good mobile detailing appointment begins before anyone arrives. The provider needs an accurate picture of the car and a workable place to clean it. You need a clear scope, price and schedule. Put those details in writing once, and you can stop repeating the same conversation through scattered messages.

Use the checklist below for a first appointment or any booking where the car, location or requested service has changed. It is a planning tool, not a claim that every operator uses the same process.

Before requesting a quote

Prepare the year and model, vehicle size, number of seating rows and the work you want. Take clear photos of the current condition and of any area needing extra attention. Mention pet hair, spills, odors or exterior contamination directly, without guessing whether a treatment will fix them.

Tell the provider about special finishes, wraps, protective film, coatings or recent repairs. If there are relevant care instructions, keep them available. Do not assume the technician can identify every material or treatment from a photo.

Then choose a proposed service location. Confirm that you have permission to use it and ask about utility and working-space requirements. A price without an accepted location is still an incomplete booking.

When you receive the quote

Check that the reply names the selected package and describes the priority work. Look for exclusions and the process for condition-related charges. Ask for the total associated with your vehicle and address, including any applicable travel charge.

Find out whether you have submitted a request or secured an appointment. For example, 940 Details says its booking requests are confirmed by text within 24 hours and payment is due after service. That is its process; another operator may require an immediate deposit or use a different confirmation system. 940 Details booking FAQ.

Save the cancellation, weather and rescheduling terms before paying. If a recurring plan is selected, record the frequency, future price and cancellation method separately from the first appointment.

The day before

Remove the personal belongings you do not want handled: documents, electronics, loose money and items tucked into door pockets or under seats. Empty only what you can safely reach. Do not disconnect or dismantle vehicle equipment to make the job easier.

Tell the provider if a child restraint will remain installed, and agree on the work around it. Child-seat cleaning and removal deserve a separate conversation using that seat's own instructions. See our family and pet-hair quote guide.

Recheck the access plan: gates, approved parking area, utility access if needed, and a contact who will answer on arrival. If the weather or property arrangements have changed, notify the provider before it travels.

At the start of the appointment

Walk through the important areas together when possible. Point out existing damage and the specific concerns in your original request. Confirm whether the quoted scope still fits the actual condition.

Before handing over keys, agree who may move the car, where it may be moved, and how keys will be returned. You should know how to reach the technician and how the technician will reach you if approval is needed.

Keep the approval rule simple: additional paid work requires your confirmation first. If the provider recommends a different service, ask for the revised scope, price and completion estimate before deciding.

Before you need the car back

An arrival window is not a completion time. Ask for an estimate that reflects the package and condition, and explain any hard deadline before the work starts. If your afternoon depends on having the car, leave room for the provider's stated uncertainty or choose a different date.

For interior work, ask about drying and when the seats, mats or cargo area can be used. Follow the provider's material-specific aftercare instructions rather than treating “finished” as the answer to every question.

The final walkthrough

Review the agreed areas while the appointment is still fresh. Ask what was completed, what could not be resolved and whether any follow-up is recommended. Compare the invoice with the approved scope and keep the receipt.

If something concerns you, describe the exact area and contact the business through its stated process. Clear photos and the original written brief make that conversation more useful than a vague statement that the car “isn't right.”
